Live grinding, “Grinder of the Year” competition, and the future of tool production from WALTER
At GrindingHub, held May 5–8, 2026, in Stuttgart, we—as a systems and solutions provider—presented our solution for the future of tool production, ATP - Automated Tool Production, the new laser machining center VISION LASER for your laser tool machining based on the proven WALTER VISION platform, the HELICHECK NANO for comprehensive measurement of the smallest tools starting at 0.1 mm in diameter, as well as other machines for grinding, EDM, and measurement.
As a special feature, we had the honor, as technology partner , of presenting the finals of the “Grinder of the Year” competition for young talent. With the competition machine HELITRONIC MINI PLUS, we provided participants with exclusive insights into state-of-the-art grinding, software, and measurement technology. In doing so , we are strengthening the promotion of young talent in tool grinding and further expanding the bridge between training and high-tech applications. Fabio Schoppet, an apprentice precision tool mechanic at K. H. Müller Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH, emerged as the winner of the competition and won a €3,000 education voucher. He was followed by Max Bergner, an apprentice precision tool mechanic at KOPP Schleiftechnik, in second place (a €2,000 education voucher), Laurin Mink, a precision toolmaker also at KOPP Schleiftechnik, in third place (a €1,000 education voucher), and Arman Hamidi, an apprentice precision toolmaker at GDS Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH, in fourth place (a €500 education voucher). As a special bonus, we are inviting all finalists to an exclusive tour of our production facility in Kuřim.
On the last day of the trade show, May 8, 2026, WALTER enthusiast and LinkedIn influencer Phil Hollinworth grinded tools live on the HELITRONIC MINI PLUS .
